Prior to Your Arrival On Campus

Below is a list of steps you will need to take before your arrival on campus this August to ensure your move-in goes as smoothly as possible.

Time Slot Signup

You will need to select a move-in time slot appointment via the Housing Portal for the day and time you plan to arrive to campus. The deadline to schedule a move-in appointment is Wednesday July 24 at 11:59pm.

Selecting a move-in date and time slot helps ensure a smooth move-in experience and minimize any traffic issues or wait times. We appreciate your assistance in adhering to your selected move-in appointment. As you make plans, if you find that your appointment date and time no longer work for you, please log in to the Housing Portal to select a new date and time as soon as possible.

Print Your Move-In Dash Pass

Your Dash Pass, a printable pass that contains important information about your move-in arrangements, will need to remain on your vehicle’s dashboard throughout your move-in period to show that you’re authorized to park on campus.

Print your Dash Pass from the Housing Portal prior to arrival, beginning August 8. Access your Dash Pass by returning to the Fall Move-in page of your 2024-2025 Academic Year application. You must have at least one cell number written on the pass.

You will also find directions to parking locations in the Housing Portal. You may print them with your Dash Pass and copies will be available at your check-in location.

Register Your Bicycle

If you plan to bring a bicycle to campus, you must register it with Cornell Transportation Services. Please register before your arrival using the Bike Registration Form.

You can get a Bike Room key from your Service Center or House Office, if applicable. Note, you will need to show proof of bike registration.

Please be advised that all personal electronic (battery-powered) modes of recreational transport, including, but not limited to, e-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards, and hoverboards are prohibited from being charged or stored in any University residential building outside of designated Bike Rooms.

Submit Your Student ID Photo

For New Students Only: You are required to submit a photo online for your Student ID Card. if you have not done so already, be sure to submit your photo as soon as possible so that your Student ID will be available when you arrive. Your Student ID Card is used for accessing your building and dining meal plan, so not having your Student ID ready when you arrive will require additional steps as a part of your move-in and could negatively impact your experience.

If your Student ID is not available at move-in, you will need to go to the Office of the University Registrar in 245 Day Hal, open Monday - Thursday, 11:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 3:30pm, to obtain your student ID after you arrive on campus.

Personal Property Insurance

If your belongings are not already covered on a family insurance policy, we strongly suggest you consider personal property insurance. Per Section XVII of the Housing License, the University is not liable for any loss or damage to personal property. Cornell University’s preferred provider is Athur J. Gallagher & Co.  More information is available at CollegeStudentInsurance.com.
