Engage with Faculty
Many Cornell faculty members are actively engaged in the residential communities around campus. They help to create a supportive environment that fosters academic and intellectual learning, personal development, well-being, and a sense of belonging. While faculty members are pivotal to each of these dimensions, they play a leadership role in the dimension of learning. Faculty in your community can help you explore intellectual topics, find research opportunities, navigate the first-year, experience other cultures, discover the Ithaca community, connect with faculty in other colleges, and much more.
All residential communities have faculty fellows, faculty members who are part of the community and who spend time interacting, sharing meals, and attending exciting programs with the residents. Some faculty members live in first-year residential communities with their families.

There are fascinating, small, ungraded courses – Learning Where You Live Courses, taught on North and West Campus that focus on interesting topics and allow you to get to know a faculty member.
North Campus Faculty Programs, a unit of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education oversees faculty involvement on North Campus and in the university owned residential communities in South Campus, with a primary focus on the first-year experience. The West Campus House System, another initiative of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, also has extensive faculty involvement and is focused exclusively on the residential experience of upper level students.
