Gear and Packing List

It is best to be prepared for cold and wet, no matter what the weather forecast. It is better to dress with layers so that you can regulate your temperature based on your activity level and changes in the weather. We strongly recommend synthetics (thermax, capilene, bergalene and other non-cottons) or wool because these materials retain their insulating qualities when damp whereas cotton does not. Make sure that your layers are sized in such a way that you will be able to easily wear all of them at one time (inner wicking layer, middle insulating layer, outer weatherproof layer). Dressing according to these concepts will increase the quality and enjoyment of your outdoor experience.

Please Bring:

  • Shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, you will get wet at least to your knees launching and landing boats (water shoes, old sneakers, or rubber boots work great. flip flips or shores without a secure fit and heal strap do not work well). For safety reasons you can not be barefoot at these times.
  • Dress for the weather. Class will be held outside even if it is raining. Rain jackets and layers to keep you warm are recommended. If water and air temperatures are low, your instructors will talk to you about wearing a wetsuit if needed (no extra fee).
  • I always have an extra pair of cloths and a towel in my bag (can be left in the van) incase I fall in or get rained on.
  • Sun glasses, brimmed hat, sunscreen. The sun’s reflection off the water can be intense.
  • Water bottle & snack
