Winter Break Housing 

2023-24 Winter Break housing is available December 17, 2023 through January 18, 2024. The deadline to apply is 11:59pm on December 10, 2023.  

High Rise 5, Holland International Living Center, Loving House, Mews Hall, and Townhouse Apartments will be open over the 2023-24 Winter Break. 

Current (fall) residents of Holland International Living Center and Loving House may stay in their current room at no additional cost, thanks to the generosity of individual gifts to those communities.

Current (fall) residents of High Rise 5, Mews Hall, and Townhouse Apartments may stay in their current rooms at a cost of $1,280, whether staying for the whole break or partial.

For current (fall) residents of all other buildings, accommodations will be provided in the floor lounges of High Rise 5 with three to four students per room at a cost of $1,280 each. A bed and dresser will be provided for each student. Students will move themselves December 17 and will not have access to any belongings left in their current (fall) room during Winter Break. Students will move to their spring room on January 17.


The deadline to cancel 2023-24 Winter Break housing without penalty is 11:59pm on December 6. Cancelations December 7-14 will be assessed a $75 cancelation fee. Cancelations December 15-17 will be assessed a $150 cancelation fee. No refund is available for cancelations after December 17. (In the case of extenuating circumstances, this cancelation fee can be appealed.) Email cancelation requests to

How to Apply for Winter Break Housing

  • To apply for Winter Break housing, please complete a Winter Break housing application via the housing portal.   

  • The application will be available starting October 16, 2023.  Deadline to apply is Sunday December 10, 2023 by 11:59pm.  
  • If you are already a resident of one of the four designated communities for Winter Break housing and plan on staying over the Winter Break, you will still need to submit a Winter Break housing application via the housing portal and pay the designated fee (unless otherwise noted above), so we are aware of your plans for Winter Break. 
  • If you are not a member of one of the communities listed and would like to apply for Winter Break housing, you may do so. However, note that housing is limited to the temporary shared lounge spaces in High Rise #5.  

Cornell Dining

The Fall Meal Plan period ends with brunch on Sunday, December 17, 2023. Students remaining on campus through the 2023-24 Winter Break can use or add to their Fall BRB balances for use at various cafés, coffee shops, and convenience stores through Saturday, December 23, 2023.

Cornell Dining will close from Sunday, December 24, through Monday, January 1, 2024. During this period, students may add funds to their City Bucks account via the GET App. Cornell Dining's City Bucks program allows you to enjoy delicious meals off campus, or delivered to your door, with a simple swipe of your Cornell ID card. Beginning on January 2, 2024 through breakfast January 16, 2024, students can continue to use their Fall Big Red Bucks at various cafés, coffee shops, and convenience stores. The 2024 Spring Meal Plan begins with lunch on January 16, 2024.

Mail and Packages

All mail and packages are delivered to the North Campus Service Center in the Robert Purcell Community Center during 2023-24 Winter Break. Hours will be limited and it will often be closed. You will not be able to pick up mail or packages when the Service Center is closed.

Check the North Campus Service Center web page for the latest hours. As of this writing, the Service Center will be open during Winter Break as follows:

December 18 – 20: 8 AM – 4:30 PM
December 21 – January 5: Closed
January 8 – 12: 8 AM – 4:30 PM
January 13 & 14: Closed
January 15: Spring Semester Hours
