Event Security
Security at events is a crucial piece of the event planning process. Proper planning when it comes to security can make an event successful for the sponsor, presenter, and guests.
Cornell Police typically provides security for on-campus events. However, outside certified security companies have also been used to staff events.
Event sponsors are typically responsible for the cost of security, whether services are provided by Cornell Police or an outside agency. However, in April 2019, Cornell announced a new program where registered student organizations could apply to have the security costs for their events covered by the university (within certain parameters). In order to receive this benefit, the student organization must work with the University Events Team and the University Events Office to coordinate security coverage. The university will cover approved costs provided by both Cornell Police and approved outside security companies. Cornell will not reimburse organizations for previous security coverage, or for events that were not coordinated properly.
