PE 1626: Wilderness First Responder / Recertification
This 8-day, 80-hour course from Wilderness Medical Associates provides the prerequisite training and certification necessary for employment as a professional outdoor instructor at nationally recognized programs such as NOLS and Outward Bound. The curriculum goes beyond the basics needed for first aid certification to emphasize the skills and knowledge needed in backcountry rescue situations when extended care may be needed.
The course consists of two 4-day sections. The first half is Wilderness Advanced First AID (WAFA), which can be taken on its own (the first 4 days). The second half is a bridge from WAFA to a full Wilderness First Responder certification. For students seeking their first WFR Certification, both sections are required (All 8 days). Those in need of a WFR recertification should only attend the second half of the course (the last 4 days).
