Cornell Gorge Stewards

Gorge stewards give directions to a hiker at Beebe Lake

A major part for Cornell University's gorge safety plan involves having seasonal Gorge Stewards. The Gorge Stewards walk the Cascadilla and Fall Creek gorges from late spring, through the summer, and into early fall. Stewards inform gorge visitors about gorge use and safety. They provide information about alternate locations for swimming and other outdoor recreational opportunities. There are opportunities to lead natural history hikes, nature walks, or chat with visitors informally about the gorge environment. Gorge Stewards also convey safety violations to Cornell Police, and assist the university's ongoing impact study by recording the numbers of visitors and their types of interactions. If you enjoy walking about in the summer, interacting with people, and taking lots of notes, this could be the job for you!
