Cornell Tradition Fellowship Award

Alpha Delta Phi Cornell Fellowship Award
Is awarded to undergraduates who demonstrate a commitment to work and service. Current Cornell students, who were not chosen as entering freshmen to be in the Tradition program, may apply in the spring of their freshman/sophomore/junior year to be admitted into the program at the beginning of the next academic year.

This award is need-based and intended for Greek undergraduates who demonstrate leadership qualities or hold a leadership position in their respective chapter. Students who qualify for grant and work-study through the Cornell Financial Aid Office and demonstrate a significant leadership role in their chapter are eligible to self-nominate. Students who have grant and self-help components in their financial aid package and are selected based on rank order established by the chapter and alumni. Awards are for the following year and graduating seniors are not eligible to apply.

This award recognizes a fraternity for outstanding support and contribution to the Cornell Interfraternity Council and for commitment to the ideals of the North-American Interfraternity Conference.

2019 Outstanding Commitment to Community & Inclusion

Dedication to promoting an inclusive community is central to the Cornell Sorority & Fraternity community values. Community incorporates friendship, love, loyalty, and diversity. Organizations should show dedication to inclusive practices in programming and training initiatives. Winners in this category have incorporated inclusive practices to create more comprehensive spaces for students, as well as, the general commitment of members to diversity. Being a part of a fraternity and sorority community is about building relationships not only within your chapter, but also with others within the community. These organizations have shown true partnerships with other organizations as well as overall community participation.

2019 Outstanding Commitment to Leadership & Accountability
Fraternal organizations should commit themselves to promoting the personal and professional development of their members through accountability to values. A well-functioning organization can be attributed to strong leadership and engaged members who are capable of holding their peers accountable for their actions. Winners in this category have shown integrity through respect for others, courage by empowering all members to lead, and honor by taking responsibility to hold individuals accountable for their actions. These organizations integrate and promote personal and professional leadership development and harm reduction strategies into organization events and activities in an effective manner.


Cornell Tradition Fellowship Award

Alpha Phi Cornell Tradition Fellowship

Is awarded to undergraduates who demonstrate a commitment to work and service. Current Cornell students, who were not chosen as entering freshmen to be in the Tradition program, may apply in the spring of their freshman/sophomore/junior year to be admitted into the program at the beginning of the next academic year.

2020 Janiece Bacon Oblak Award for Outstanding Panhellenic Leader - Maya Cutforth & Gwen Pipes

This award is dedicated to Janiece Oblak, Dean of Fraternities and Sororities at Cornell from 1983‐1987. Janiece is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. This award is given annually to a senior who has displayed loyalty and leadership in sorority affairs and whose contribution to the Cornell Fraternity & Sorority System has strengthened Fraternity & Sorority Life.

  • Adjudication: Greek Judicial Board

  • Responsible Violations: Did not follow social event policies according to the COVID-19 guidelines at the time. Also, having a party with Lambda that was not in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.

  • Sanctions: Pi Phi will have the opportunity to reduce social probation to eight weeks so long as the chapter meets two conditions. First, Pi Phi must present evidence to the Appeals Board that members who engaged in the social event with Lambda Chi Alpha, breaching COVID-19
    protocols, were held accountable by the chapter.

  • Adjudication Type: Greek Judicial Board
  • Responsible Violations: Six students driving around and screaming who got in a vehicle together on Bid Day. May have been part of recruitment. Photos were provided.
  • Sanctions: educational training with an organization, such as with Cayuga Medical and Cornel EMS (who have done numerous COVID-related trainings with various chapters) would prove incredibly beneficial to the chapter. Also request that the Chapter President or associated executive board member sends proof that 100% if not 85% of the chapter was in attendance of this educational training board. Social probation will be enforced.
