Multicultural Greek & Fraternal Council Intake Process

About

The Multicultural Greek & Fraternal Council is composed of 15 culturally-based fraternities and sororities who serve to coordinate programs between its own members, members of the council and the rest of the community with an emphasis on service and culture. MGFC is comprised of fraternities and sororities that identify as Historically Black, Latinx Based, African-Social Justice and Asian-Interest Organizations.

The mission of our council is to operate as a united governing body for all organizations, dedicating ourselves to promoting unity and serving as a support system. We serve as a model for the underrepresented student community and operate as a united body to effectively advocate the issues and concerns of our organizations and the entire campus community that we serve.

The purpose of MGFC is to positively promote cultural Greek Life as it exists at Cornell University and beyond.

Preamble

We, the representatives of multicultural fraternities and sororities, similar in structure and background, recognizing the need for coordination in activities and inter-collegiate fraternities and sororities, and in recognizing that there are certain areas of action, cultural programming and support for the underrepresented student community that can best be carried out by the joint efforts of all such organizations, and believing that these needs can best be realized by formal organization in order to facilitate agreement and coordination; we do hereby establish such an organization to work for the welfare of our University and our group and bind ourselves to the provisions of the MGFC constitution and bylaws.

How to Join an MGFC Organization

MGFC organizations each have different recruitment processes. Some, like our Asian-interest fraternities and sororities, have formal recruitment at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, while NALFO and NPHC generate interest through events they host throughout the semester. Most of our 12 organizations also hold a Week of Events, focusing on culture, service, and social activities.

We encourage you to attend events hosted by the fraternity or sorority you're interested in, follow them on social media, and attend MGFC events. This allows you to get to know the members and for them to get to know you. When these organizations host interest meetings, informational sessions, or a rush meeting, it's important to attend so you can learn more about the steps to join and the new member process.
