Fall Housing Selection for Rising Juniors and Seniors

Fall Housing Selection 

Rising juniors and seniors will be able to participate in Room Selection in Fall for the following academic year housing. The application will for 2027-28 will open at 10am on September 1 and will close September 27. This process will allow rising juniors and rising seniors to choose between selecting a room in their same area of campus or changing communities during the Open Room Selection process.

  • Timeslot Release for Priority Program House Selection and Same Area: Sept 30 
  • Priority Program House Selection: Thursday Oct 1 @ 4pm 
    For rising juniors and seniors who signed up to live in a program house. Please note:, Language House, Sober Living Community and Veterans House have an additional application. 
  • Same Area: Monday, Oct 5 @ 4pm – Wednesday, Oct 7 @ 12pm 
    For rising juniors and seniors who would like to select a place to live in the same area of campus where they currently reside. Areas include North Campus Residence Halls, and Townhouses; South Campus Residence Halls and 301 College Avenue Apartments; and each individual House in the West Campus House System
    • Same Area Selection – West Campus: October 5 at 4pm to October 6 at noon 
      • Students will only be able to select one of the five houses depending on their current assignment. 
    • Same Area Selection – North and South Campus: October 6 at 4pm to October 7 at noon 
      • Students will only be able to select one campus depending on their current assignment. 
  • Timeslot Release for Open Room Selection: Oct 7 
  • Open Room Selection: Monday, Oct 8 @ 4pm  
    For rising juniors and seniors who'd like to select from any available space on campus. This is the first opportunity for students who do not currently live on North, South, or West Campus to be able to self-select during this process.
  • Wait List Opens: Immediately following Open Room Selection
    For any rising juniors and seniors, who did not select a room during Same Area or Open Room Selection. Students will be able to join a waitlist and preference areas and room types that they would like to be considered for as rooms become available 

To participate in Room Selection this fall, rising juniors and rising seniors must apply via the Housing and Dining Portal by September 27, 2026 at midnight. While we are unable to guarantee housing to juniors and seniors, we are committed to accommodating as many students as possible given our available spaces on campus. Students who fail to apply for housing by the deadline will not be given a timeslot and will be redirected to join the waitlist when it opens.

You can use these opportunities to learn about your options for living on campus, such as in residence halls, apartments, the West Campus House System, or Program Houses, and ask any questions you have about the upcoming process.

Program House Participation

Any rising junior or senior who wants to live in a program house for the 27-28 Academic Year should participate in Priority Program House Selection. To be given a timeslot for Priority Program House Selection, students can indicate on their application up to three program houses they are interested in living in. Language House, Veterans House, and Sober Living Community have additional applications included in the housing application which will be given to students to complete if they preference those houses. You must complete the additional application and be approved to be able to select into those Program Houses.

Beds in program houses may not be available during other stages of the Fall Housing Selection process. Students who want to live in a program house must preference a program house in their application and select during Priority Program House Selection. 

Roommate Considerations  

Creating a roommate block (up to five) is permitted throughout the process. If you are selecting a multi-occupancy space and wish to pull in a specific roommate(s), you will need to have your group block established prior to reserving your room. We encourage you to discuss any housing arrangements for next year with your current and prospective roommates and plan accordingly before the process begins. Students should only join a roommate block if their intention is to live together for the 2027-28 Academic Year.

During the Same Area process on October 5-7, only block leaders can pull in members of a roommate block to their area of campus. Block leaders cannot pull roommates into a different area of campus than where they are currently living (i.e. a block leader who currently lives on North Campus can pull their block into North Campus buildings but cannot pull into any other area of campus during Same Area selection).

The Open Room Selection process allows students to select one or more rooms from anywhere on campus. If you are the roommate block leader, you can assign yourself and roommate block members to those rooms.

Fall Housing Selection Instructions

STEP 1:  Sign up for Fall Housing Selection

Sign up for Fall Housing Selection in the Housing and Dining Portal by 11:59 pm on September 27 in order to receive timeslot(s) for the process. Timeslots for Same Area and Program House Selection will be emailed to eligible students beginning September 30. 
Through September 27 at 11:59pm, you are able to register for Fall Housing Selection as an individual student or as a roommate group (called a block). 

Are you interested in living in a program house? Priority Program House Selection will take place on October 1 for any resident interested in living in a program house. You can indicate an interest in up to 3 different program houses to receive a timeslot for Priority Program House Selection. 
 

STEP 2: Prepare for Fall Housing Selection by following the steps below.  

  1. Learn about your housing options. Visit Housing Options for Upper-level Undergraduate Students, to review your options, including buildings that offer Winter Break Housing. For information on the building and room configurations, visit Residence Hall Configurations to see what buildings have corridor-style, suite-style, or apartment-style arrangements. 
  2. Decide if you want to live with people you know. Up to five students may choose rooms together in a block. Note: You may only join one block at a time.  
  3. If choosing to live with people you know:  
    1. Establish a block leader who will create the block in the Housing and Dining Portal. The student who is planning on being the block leader can find block members by searching for their netid or by searching for block members based on their responses to the lifestyle questionnaire.
    2. You may join roommate blocks with students who have a different gender marker than you. However, you will need to contact the Cornell Housing office during your timeslot to assist you with placing each other in the same room or suite. 
  4. Receive your timeslot. Timeslots will be emailed by end of day on September 30. Timeslots are randomly generated, and there is no advantage or disadvantage to blocking. Everyone in the block will receive the same timeslot if they are eligible for that specific stage of the process. Make a plan for your group to gather at one computer, if possible, during your block Room Selection timeslot so your group can choose your room(s) together.   
  5. Familiarize yourself with the Fall Housing Selection system. Attend a Housing Selection Information Session before your timeslot, hosted by Housing in the weeks leading up to Fall Housing Selection   
  6. Review bed availability reports and floor plans. We encourage you to develop multiple housing plans.  
     

STEP 3: During Fall Housing Selection (October 1-8) 

  1. Log in to the Housing and Dining Portal at the beginning of your Fall Housing Selection timeslot. Block leaders: you should log in for your group at the beginning of your timeslot.  
  2. Navigate to the Fall Housing Selection page by clicking the Undergraduate tab on the Home page and then clicking 'Continue' next to the '2027-2028 Academic Year' application on the Select Term Period page. (If you see the Timeslot page, but not the Room Selection page, refresh after your timeslot begins.   
  3. Select a Select Building page. Buildings with current availability are shown.   
  4. Click 'Add to Cart' on the Room List page to select a room for yourself. If you are a block leader, add rooms for blockmates before clicking 'Save and Continue' at the bottom of the page.   
    1. All currently available rooms in the selected building are shown. There may be multiple pages of search results so watch for the option to advance to the next screen. 
    2. You may refine the search results using the filters available.   
    3. You may only assign men to male-designated rooms and women to female-designated rooms. Dynamic rooms/suites have their gender changed to male and female on the gender of their first person who reserves a bed in the room/suite. If a multi-gender block does not reserve a full room or suite, the suite or room will be made co-ed.
    4. If you are a block leader, you do not need to assign everyone in your block a bed. However, you will not be able to do so later. Anyone not assigned may self-select a bed. Only the block leader is able to assign other members of their block to a bed.  
  5. Rooms will be held for four minutes while you complete this and the next step. On the Assign Beds page, assign a bed to yourself. If you are a block leader, assign beds to your blockmates before clicking 'Assign Beds' at the bottom of the page.   
    1. If you are a block leader, once you click 'Assign Beds,' you will not be able to change your blockmates' assignments.  
    2. If you are in a multi-gender block, as the block leader, you will not be able to assign your blockmates. You will need to contact the Cornell Housing office at (607) 255-5368  to assist you with placing your blockmates. 
  6. Review the assignment(s) on the Confirmation page and click 'Save & Continue.'   
    If you are a block leader and you wish to cancel and reselect, note that you will only be able to cancel your own assignment and not that of any blockmates you assigned.   
  7. Sign your housing license. If you are a block leader, blockmates you assigned will be automatically emailed and have two (2) hours to log in and sign their housing licenses.   
  8. Select your meal plan. After signing your housing contract, you will select your meal plan for both semesters (Fall 2027/Spring 2028). Your available meal plan options will depend on the housing that you have selected. 
  9. On the Application Status page, review the information. Your application status will be complete if you have an assignment and have signed your housing license. Click 'Log Out.' 

**Each room listed will include information about whether the room is designated as a male, female, dynamic, or coed* room, and the number of open beds left in that room. During the process, floor plans are viewable online. 
*Dynamic rooms/suites have their gender changed to male or female based on the gender of the first person who reserves a bed in the room/suite.
