Guide to 2021 - 2022 General Room Selection for Upper-level Undergraduate Students

Who can participate?

Upperlevel undergraduate students are those who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors in fall 2021. This guide describes the process to select from available rooms in South Campus residence halls and in the West Campus House System. Sophomores may also select from available rooms in the Townhouse Community.

Other on-campus housing options are the Program Houses and cooperative houses, which have separate application processes. If you are interested in Program Houses and cooperative houses, we recommend signing up for General Room Selection in order to have a back-up plan. You would learn application decisions for Program Houses and co-ops before the actual General Room Selection timeslots begin on March 8. 

Timeline (reflects changes as of Feb. 10):

January 1 – March 6, 11:59pm, 2021 – Sign up during this time period in order to receive a room selection timeslot. There is no fee or commitment when you sign up. Sign up in the Housing Portal.

January 21, 2021, 3:00 - 4:00pm ET – Webinar: Guide to General Room Selection. Watch the recording. 

February 16, 2021 – Program House application deadline (extended from Feb. 8). Decision notifications date will be posted soon. Program House room selection will be on February 24, 2021.

February 18, 2021, 7:00pm - 8:30pm - Demystifying Room and Roommate Selection; register for the event in CampusGroups to receive the Zoom link

February 19, 2021 - Deadline to contact Student Disability Services with requests for accommodations.

February 21, 2021, 1:00 - 5:00pm - Virtual Co-op Mosey, an open house of Cornell's cooperative houses. Information about the houses, including links to some application forms, will continue to be available in the virtual fair platform after Feb. 21. Notification of co-op application decisions will be sent March 7, 2021.

February 22 - 23, 2021 – West Campus House System continued occupancy room selection

February 24, 2021 - Continued occupancy room selection for South Campus and for the Townhouse Community. (Townhouse Community will be for sophomores only.)

March 3, 2021 - Program House room selection

March 6, 11:59pm ET, 2021 - Deadline to sign up for General Room Selection; sign up in the Housing Portal.

March 8, 2021 – Start watching your email to learn your assigned timeslot. Timeslots are randomly generated and emailed to students who signed up before the March 6, 2021 deadline.

By March 14, read the instructions and FAQ in this website. 

March 15 - 17, 2021  General Room Selection takes place. You will be assigned a 20-minute timeslot within these ranges. For rising sophomores: Monday 3/15/21 from 5:00pm - 10:40pm and Wednesday 3/17/21 from 5:00pm - 8:20pm. For rising juniors and seniors: Wednesday 3/17/21 from 9:00pm - 10:40pm.

March 18, 2021 – Waitlist sign-up begins.

March 28, 2021 – Waitlist sign-up ends.
