Office of the Dean of Students
A message from the Dean of Students
Dear Students,
I am honored to serve as Cornell's Robert W. & Elizabeth C. Staley Dean of Students and Associate Vice President for Student & Campus Life.
Cornell is a community filled with extraordinary opportunities. I encourage you to immerse yourself in all it has to offer: connect with staff across campus, reach out to your professors, join organizations, attend events, explore new interests, and build relationships that will shape your future. Your experiences beyond the classroom are an essential part of your education, helping you discover who you are and the impact you want to make — and my entire team and I are here to support this journey at each turn.
Our work in Student Engagement and Belonging is grounded in inclusion, connection, and care. Our work is centered on supporting students holistically while creating opportunities to engage, lead, build community, and thrive. Through meaningful experiences, advocacy, and support, we help students discover purpose, develop resilience, and make the most of their Cornell journey.
As your Dean of Students, I serve as an advocate for every student. Along with my team, I am committed to fostering a community where you feel supported, challenged, and empowered to grow—personally, socially, and intellectually.
Throughout your time at Cornell, you'll experience many successes and create lasting memories. There may also be times when life feels challenging. You may encounter setbacks or uncertainty, and that’s okay. Some of life’s greatest lessons come from those experiences. When they do, know that we are here to listen, support, and help you navigate the path forward.
Whether you’re seeking guidance, looking to get involved, or searching for a place to belong, we invite you to connect with us. Visit the Office of the Dean of Students on the second floor of Willard Straight Hall or email dean_of_students@cornell.edu.
My hope is that each day you know:
You belong.
You are enough.
And there is a purpose for you within this community.
Marla Love
Associate Vice President for Student Engagement and Belonging
