Becoming Big Red: Cornell Family Orientation

Family Orientation at Cornell University is more than just an event—it's an essential journey that marks the beginning of an exciting adventure for both students and their families. Held in the vibrant setting of our historic campus, Family Orientation is designed to immerse you in the Cornell experience, ensuring you feel informed, supported, and connected.

Family Orientation includes communication during the summer before a student's arrival on campus through our Becoming Big Red Newsletter and Conversations webinar series. Newsletters will be sent out every other week, complemented by our Conversation Series. Sign up for our family communication here. In-person sessions will be hosted during new student move-in before classes begin.

Housing for New Students

All students must live on campus through the spring semester of their second academic year of enrollment. Students can begin to fill out their housing application on April 3, 2024, found in the Housing Portal, and learn all about the application process on our New Undergrad Application Process page. Students will receive their 2024-25 housing assignment and information to help them plan to move in on campus over the summer. Please wait to make your travel plans until your student has their assignment.
