Frequently Asked Questions

What does NSO mean?

NSO stands for New Student Orientation!

Why should I make my NSO schedule?

NSO offers a mix of required and optional programming. We encourage new students to create their own schedule to ensure students can plan accordingly around these programs.

How do I create my NSO schedule?

You can make your schedule here.

How soon can I make my NSO schedule?

Once you have activated your NetID, you can begin to work on your New Student To Do List. Your NSO schedule will become available mid-June. Be sure to check your Cornell email over the summer for important updates and information through our bi-weekly newsletters.

Can I edit my NSO schedule?

Yes, schedules can be edited at any time.

*Please note that Small Groups are finalized the week before NSO week. You will not be able to edit your Small Group assignment past August 10, 2025.

When is my NSO schedule due?

NSO schedules should be completed by August 10.

When do I move in?

New Student Move-In takes place the first two days of NSO. Move-in timeslots will be available after a housing assignment is provided. For questions about housing and move-in, please contact Housing & Residential Life at 607-255-5368.

What if I need to miss a required event?

Please contact the Tatkon Center at tatkoncenter@cornell.edu if you need to miss a required event.

What can I do in my free time during NSO week?

Cornell and Ithaca have many activities to offer! Check out Visit Ithaca for more ideas or the Cornell events calendar for upcoming campus events.

Please visit the Cornell Parking and Transportation website for more information on parking.

Can my family/siblings come?

Yes, family members and siblings are welcome! Daytime events on Monday and Tuesday are open to family. Evening social events are for students only. After Tuesday, all events are focused on students, although families are welcome to stay in Ithaca and help their students settle in for as long as they wish!

Who do I call if I have a problem with my dorm room or room key?

You should first reach out to your Resident Advisor, whose contact info you will receive during your required Residential Community Meeting during NSO week. If you need more assistance, please reach out to Housing & Residential Life at 607-255-5368.
