Student groups earn Cornell honors for local partnerships 11/7/23 To underscore how local partnerships improve Cornell, Ithaca and Tompkins County, the university presented the 13th annual Cornell Town-Gown Awards to three student-community collaborations. Student interns help plan future of 4-H camp 9/28/23 Through the Cornell Cooperative Extension Summer Internship Program, three urban and regional planning undergrads have created a land-use plan to help a 4-H camp develop an 85-acre tract near Canandaigua. Big Red Buddies support learning in Head Start classrooms 8/28/23 Students in the Big Red Buddies program volunteer their time to assist in classrooms with the Tompkins County Early Head Start and Head Start program, which promotes healthy child development and education for low-income families. ILR students help NYC area organizations, gain experience 8/22/23 Twelve undergraduates, all ILR majors, took part in the first High Roads Fellowship program to take place in New York City. During the nine-week session, the fellows gained work experience assisting organizations in the NYC region. Cornell Cares: Making a difference in your hometown 8/9/23 Twice a year, Cornellians gather to do acts of service through Cornell Cares. This summer’s activities ranged from park cleanups in Pittsburgh, to painting a youth center in Denver, to helping out local food banks in Chicago. JFK Award winner to mentor girls of color in STEM 5/23/23 Natalia Urbas ’23 received this year’s Class of 1964 John F. Kennedy Memorial Award. She will use the $15,000 award funding to support underrepresented minorities interested in pursuing careers in research and technology. Boatmun ’23 honored for campus-community leadership 5/17/23 Abigail Boatmun ’23 was recognized for her participation and leadership in a myriad of town-gown interests focused on mentorship, literacy and educational equity.
