Books & Technology

Books stacked on top of eachother

Cornell offers the Cornell Academic Materials Program (CAMP), which is a university-wide program that provides undergraduate students taking undergraduate courses at Cornell with access to their required textbooks and course packs for a single flat-rate cost, $275 per semester. Materials in this program are provided in a digital format within Canvas and become available for students to access no later than the first day of classes.

The Cornell Store offers a convenient place for students to prepare for classes. The Cornell Store offers a large textbook department featuring rental, used and new textbooks. Additionally, they have course materials, school supplies, Big Red gear, technology products and more.

IT@Cornell provides technology services to support and enable the education, research, and engagement activities. Students have access to free IT support for all campus IT services, such as:

  • Email
  • Internet connectivity
  • Accessing course materials through Canvas
  • And more

IT@Cornell also provides the IT Service Desk, which can answer your students’ questions about Cornell's IT services, help them troubleshoot, report issues that they’re seeing, and more.

Cornell Academic Materials Program

Through the Cornell Academic Materials Program (CAMP), undergraduate students will be able to access required textbooks and course packs for undergraduate-level courses at a single cost of $275 per semester. All undergraduate students are automatically opted in to this program. Students must opt out of this program if they do not wish to partake.

Students will receive an email before each semester with a link to opt-out or students may opt out in Canvas once digital materials are available just before the semester begins. For students receiving financial aid, the Academic Materials fee is included in the cost of attendance.

Students will receive all course materials in a digital format through this program unless a digital format is unavailable or not appropriate for a course. All digital materials will be made available in Canvas by the first day of classes. Many digital textbooks have extended access (up to 5 years) which allows students to access materials beyond the courses’ end. For courses with required print materials, students will receive an email indicating which items to pick up at The Cornell Store.

Software

All incoming Cornell students are set up by default with Gmail through a Cornell Google Workspace for Education account. Students also have the option to use Outlook through Microsoft 365 for their Cornell email needs instead. Information about setting up Cornell emails and switching between Google and Microsoft 365 can be found on the IT@Cornell webpage.

Canvas Access & Course Syllabus

Most courses are delivered via the web-based learning system Canvas. If your student is new to Canvas or wants a refresher, watch this six-minute video Getting Started in Canvas for Students and check out the helpful Student Guides.

Generally, instructors will contact your student about two days before class starts at their Cornell email address (their NetID@cornell.edu) with instructions for accessing the course syllabus, lectures, assignments, tests, homework, and additional information on Canvas.

Note that your student’s course's Canvas site will not open until a few days before the class start date. Encourage your student to check their emails from Cornell frequently for updates.
