Chuck Lyons
Chuck has been part of the Cornell University community for over 30 years, both as a student in the 1990s and now as a dedicated Business Analyst in HRL. In their current role, they support Cornell students and Housing & Residential Life staff in maximizing the value of software platforms like StarRez and other housing solutions. Chuck is energized by change and thrives on managing projects, analyzing data, and collaborating to improve business processes.
Their passion for Housing & Residential Life began as an undergraduate at the University of New Hampshire, where they held multiple leadership roles in the Residence Hall Association and the North Atlantic (now Northeast) Affiliate of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls—earning the prestigious Silver Pin Award.
Chuck has presented at conferences and contributed to professional committees for both the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors - International (ACCED-I) and StarRez. At Cornell, he has served on numerous committees within Housing and Residential Life and the Employee Assembly, championing initiatives focused on leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and employee appreciation.
A proud supporter of Cornell traditions, Chuck has volunteered at many major campus events including inaugurations, commencements, convocations, reunions, and Dragon Day. His earlier roles at Cornell included positions in Nuclear Studies and Conference & Event Services.
Beyond their work, Chuck is a mental health advocate with a focus on dialectical behavior therapy. They also volunteer at the Tompkins County SPCA walking dogs and enjoy hiking around Ithaca with their son’s Cardigan Welsh corgi, Acadia. A lifelong lover of herding breeds, Chuck spent many years rescuing Border Collies and helped organize the first Border Collie national specialty.
Chuck finds joy in sharing their love for Cornell, Ithaca, and its natural beauty with students and colleagues alike—and in helping people breathe easier, both figuratively and literally.
