Clockwise from top left: Connie Mabry, director of Cornell university commencement events, accepts her Trustee award; Christine Nye, associate dean of students, group behavior and development, accepts the Trustee award on behalf of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards; C. Lucas, wellness community outreach specialists, accepts their Health Promoting Campus award; and Anna Ben-Schlomo, sustainability coordinator for Cornell Dining, accepts her Culture of Sustainability award.

The picture tells at least four words pretty well.

“I was totally shocked,” said Director of Cornell University Commencement Events Connie Mabry when she was honored this November with a President’s Award for Employee Excellence.

“I was so surprised and so honored to receive the award for all my years of Directing the University Commencements,” said Connie. “And to be selected by Ezra Cornell ’70 BS ’71 from all of the applicants was even more wonderful. He and I have done many, many events together so receiving the award from him was unbelievably special.”

Each summer, the Office of the President seeks nominations for Cornell University’s President’s Awards for Employee Excellence, and each fall the awardees are announced and celebrated at an Excellence Awards Reception.

This year three individuals in SCL and one team were honored:

Connie Mabry, director of Cornell University Commencement Events
Trustee award for overall excellence

C. Lucas, wellness community outreach specialist
The Health Promoting Campus Award

Anna Ben-Schlomo, sustainability coordinator for Cornell Dining
The Culture of Sustainability Award

The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards
Trustee award for overall excellence

“The recognition of the great work done in Student and Campus Life is a testament to our values and mission but also to the remarkable commitment our staff shows to making this such a welcoming, vibrant, and supportive community,” said Ryan Lombardi, vice president for Student and Campus Life. “Congratulations to all our honorees and nominees. I think these acknowledgments just scratch the surface of the many outstanding initiatives and people that do this work on a daily basis in SCL.”

The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards was given the Trustee award for overall excellence for its work in developing a student conduct process that was responsive to the changing needs of the Cornell community with a focus on education and growth.

“OSCCS is honored to receive this esteemed recognition of our efforts to implement a restorative and educational student conduct process that aims to meet the needs of students and their development,” said OSCCS Director Christina Liang.

C. Lucas was awarded the brand-new Health Promoting Campus Award. Along with two other awardees, C was celebrated for embodying the tagline of the Okanagan Charter, “People, Places and Planet.” C was specifically recognized for their dedication to reducing barriers and making recreational spaces on campus more welcoming to all Cornellians.
