Re-Welcome to Cornell!

We know your first year with us at Cornell was not what you imagined it to look like. Whether you were on campus or studying away, you are part of our Cornell family! We hope these events will give you the opportunity to connect in-person with your peers to make new memories, meet new people, spend time with friends from last year, and have fun! 

 

Upcoming social events

New Student Convocation for 2025 and 2024

Wednesday August 25th, 4pm EST | Schoellkopf Stadium. The classes of 2025 and 2024 are invited to attend Cornell’s official welcome from President Pollack and university and student leadership. We’re delighted that you are able to join us for Convocation this year. Note that it takes 30 minutes to walk to the stadium from North Campus and 20 minutes from West Campus. Be sure to dress for the weather as this program will be held outdoors rain or shine. Join us after for free food and games at a Sunset Picnic behind Schoellkopf Stadium.

Wednesday August 25th, 5pm EST | Crescent Parking Lot. Join your classmates for your first sunset picnic following Convocation.

Wednesday August 25th, doors open at 6pm EST, show at 7pm EST (following Convocation) | Schoellkopf Stadium. Cornell Concert Commission and Orientation Steering Committee are excited to present Cautious Clay on Wednesday, August 25th in Schoellkopf Stadium at 7 pm, free to the Cornell community. Campus Walking Tour

Sat, Aug 28, 4:30 pm & Sun, Aug 29, 4:30pm | Join Tatkon staff members and classmates to discover iconic spots and hidden gems on campus. Get to know the Cornell landscape on foot. You’re invited to share your selfies made along the route: follow us on Instagram @cornelltatkon and direct message photos to us (or email to tatkoncenter@cornell.edu) by September 1.  Open to all first-years and transfers and to those on campus for the first time or any Class of 2024 member as well as Class of 2025. Meet at the Tatkon Center, 101 Robert Purcell Community Center.


Making the Most of Your First Year: A Student Panel for the Class of 2024

Sun, Aug 29, 4:30-5:30pm, Class of 2024. You may have missed this last year. Join us now. It’s not too late to get the inside scoop. Hear from the student staff at the Tatkon Center, a North Campus support and resource center. We’ll cover academic support services, finding community, transportation, health and well-being, and more. Hear about making the most of your Cornell experience This is a good chance to catch up on info you were not able to get last year, as well as meet people you missed because of COVID. The panel will conclude with Q&A and then move into a speed friending event.


Speed Friending Class of 2024

Sun, Aug 29, 5:30-7:00pm | 103 Robert Purcell Community Center. Come make friends. It was tough last year to meet people. Make a fresh start. Spend three minutes chatting with classmates. We provide some icebreaker questions, you do the chatting. 


BEAR Walk Fair in Collegetown

August 31, 6pm | Schwartz Center part of Collegetown. Join the Office of Off-Campus Living in celebrating the start of the new year. They have invited community members in the Collegetown, Ithaca, and Cornell communities to connect with Cornellians and provide helpful resources. This fair kicks off a series of walks around the Collegetown area to deliver important information about Off-Campus living and safety door-to-door! Click here to read more about 2019's BEAR Walk!


Ice Cream Social

September 2, 6pm | Arts Quad. Join us for an ice cream social with a Cornell classic -- Cornell Dairy ice cream! Hang around the Arts Quad until after sunset to be part of another Cornell tradition: the first Movies on the Arts Quad of the semester!

Movies on the Arts Quad: Monsters University

September 2, around 8pm (after sunset) | Arts Quad. The first of the semester for another Cornell tradition: Movies on the Arts Quad! Join us every other Thursday in September and October for an outdoor movie on the arts quad.


Sophomores @ Schoellkopf (Class of 2024 Meet-Up before Homecoming Fireworks)

September 17, 7:30 - 8:30pm | Lynah Lot. Class of 2024: Meet up with old friends and introduce yourself to new classmates before heading to the Homecoming Fireworks show.  You’ll be able to sign your class banner (a brand-new tradition!) and we’ll have frozen treats, activities, and light-up glasses (while supplies last) that you can wear to the fireworks!


Connecting with others

Looking for a peer mentor to help you navigate this year at Cornell?
Join Tat Buddies and fast track your knowledge of Cornell.   Get paired with a junior or senior who is a member of the Tatkon Center staff and check in throughout the term for informal support and mentoring.  Tap into their experiences to make the most of yours.  Ask about navigating courses, study tips, organizations, minors, balancing work and play, research opportunities, and anything else.  Open to all sophomores and transfer students who entered in Fall '20 or Spring '21.  Join us and sign up!


Service Fair

Tuesday September 24 | 11am-2pm | Ag Quad (outdoors). We offer student volunteer, service-learning, community service, and student leadership opportunities through a variety of programs. Come learn about the many ways to serve. Hosted by the David Einhorn Center for Community Engagement.

Sophomore Year: Career Planning and Resources (virtual)

September 15, 5-6pm EST | virtual. Sophomore year is a time of decisions—choosing a major, off-campus study options, and summer internship planning. This will assist you in thinking about these topics while using Cornell Career Services.

Arts & Sciences Welcome Hub

Thursday 8/19, Friday 8/20, and Saturday 8/21 | 11 am-3 pm | Groos Family Atrium (Klarman Hall, ground floor). Welcome to the College of Arts & Sciences! Stop by the A&S Welcome Hub to meet the advising deans and get your A&S t-shirt. There will also be snacks to-go and a photo station.


Engineering Advising Hosting Returning Sophomores for a Re-Welcoming Advising Briefing

Tuesday, August 24th from 4 pm-5:30 pm at Olin Hall, Room 155

Come learn more about building your support network at Cornell and accessing the numerous resources available to you on campus.  Engage with Engineering Advising staff to plan for your major affiliation this upcoming year.


Hotel School Welcome/Welcome Back for FA20 Matriculating Students

Wednesday, 8/25 from 11:30 am-12:30 pm | Peter Plaza, Statler. The Dean will speak briefly. Pizza, cookies, and drinks provided by the Statler.


Open House for Advising and Career Development Resources (for Human Ecology students only)

Thursday 8/26 11am – 2pm | MVR Hall room 1203. Come stop by our Career Exploration Center anytime during this time frame! Meet our advising staff and our student career assistants to discuss your academic and co-curricular plans. 


Re-Welcome to Warren 

August 25 10:30 am-11:30 am | Warren Hall B25. Students who entered Dyson in fall 2020 are welcome to join some of the Dyson Faculty and Student Experience Staff in Warren Hall as a way to connect in person. All students will receive a Design Your Dyson t-shirt. Following this event, students are welcome to head out to the Ag Quad to grab a snack, play yard games, and just relax with all of our Dyson students in a community welcome. Questions can be sent to Dyson_oss@cornell.edu.
