Mathew Hall (he/they), M.Ed., is the Associate Dean of Students and Director of the LGBT Resource Center. In this role, Mat provides oversight and leadership to the work of the LGBT Resource Center and supports its innovative and welcoming programming, services, and support for all students. Mat’s professional philosophy is one of holistic, student-centered support across the academic lifecycle.

Mat received their Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Miami University in 2011 with a focus on Early Modern Europe and Machiavelli's political writings. Thereafter, Mat continued their academic journey at Ohio University where he received a Master of Education degree specializing in College Student Personnel in 2015. Currently, Mat is pursuing his PhD at Miami University in the Educational Leadership program’s Interdisciplinary Studies track. Their interdisciplinary foci are higher education, social work, and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Mat’s dissertation research examines the experiences of queer and trans sexual assault survivors on college campuses who are also navigating instances of institutional betrayal. Additional research interests include queer and trans diaspora, the impacts of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on the development of college students, LGBTQ+ student wellbeing and mental health, and the intersection of arts-based practice and the narration of queer and trans histories.

Mat has worked in the field of higher education for more than a decade. Throughout their career, Mat’s professional portfolio has included LGBTQ+ student support, campus-based sexual violence prevention, campus sexual health work, alcohol and other drug prevention, and basic needs and food insecurity.

Outside of campus work, Mat enjoys a variety of personal pursuits. Mat is an avid reader, with speculative fiction, LGBTQ+ literature, and political and historical non-fiction among their go-to genres. Mat also enjoys cooking, traveling with friends, and discovering new coffee shops. They are the owner of a highly spoiled Boston Terrier, Rupert, with whom Mat likes to enjoy exploring new walks and parks.
