Mindfulness Monday: Live Celtic Music with Guided Meditation

Music is all about vibration, letting energy transfer from one form—or being—to another. Humans and harmonies flourish by resonating with each other. Join us as the chill and darkness of winter encourage us to take time to look inward. Teacher, scholar, and performer Dr. Deborah Justice will lead us in a guided meditation, supported by music from Celtic traditions on the hammered dulcimer, a lush 90-string zither.

Voices on Goodness, Gratitude & Belonging: An exhibit featuring selections from the Class of 2023 photo shoot now on display in the Tatkon Center through May. 
The exhibit will be spread across four separate locations: the Tatkon Center for First-Year Students (Feb 3-May 15), Mann Library Gallery (Feb 3-Mar 31), Jill Stuart Gallery in Human Ecology (Feb 17-Mar 13), and the Physical Sciences Building main corridor and 2nd floor atrium (Feb 3-Mar 31). Each site will have responses to a different question posed to two first-year classes, west campus, and the larger Cornell community. See these beautiful portraits and accompanying words, which offer an authentic glimpse into the spirit, hopes, and dreams of our community.

Social Science is the latest project from Grammy Award-winning producer and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. Social Science uses their eclectic blend of jazz, indie rock, and Hip Hop to explore critical themes impacting society. The band takes on topics such as social justice, racial equality, gender and sexuality, mass incarceration, and ongoing sociopolitical concerns.

Dinner will be provided.
This hands-on two day event will explore data storytelling, the importance of audience, and humanizing data visualization. On the first day, students will learn about how data storytelling and your intended audience can be used to create a narrative.

Students will take part in activities to create their own data stories, exploring how different charts, symbols, and colors can influence the narrative. On the second day, students will present their own data visualizations and learn how to “humanize” data visualizations. Following a hands-on group constructive crit, students will hack their own data visualizations. Students can refine their final product and use it in their portfolios.

Anna Feigenbaum currently works as a Principal Academic in Digital Storytelling at Bournemouth University in the Southwest of England where she teaches multimedia journalism and convenes the Civic Media Hub and BU Datalabs project. Before joining BU she taught at RAIUL and held fellow positions at the Rutgers University Center for Historical Analysis, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the Institute for Historical Research at University of London.
