We offer one-on-one advising sessions (45 minutes) for graduate students to support their job search and career development outside of academia. Book a Current Grad Student Advising appointment by clicking the "Make an Appointment" button. Building on the Career Development model, the session could cover any of a wide range of topics:

Understand Yourself

  • Career assessment (Strengths Finder, SkillSkan, MBTI, etc.).

  • Self-reflection and skill and experience inventory.

  • Identifying transferable skills and career goals.

Explore Options

  • Build and expand a professional network.

  • Exploration of career options beyond academia (internship and full-time).

  • Discussion between academic career path and careers beyond academia.

  • Helpful workshop and activity resources.

Take Action

  • Communication skills (with advisors/future employers).

  • Resume and cover letter review, and CV to resume.

  • Prepare for and practice interviews.

  • Offer negotiation.
