Dates of Employment:  August to May.  Working during the summer and university breaks is optional and available.

Rate of Pay: $20.00-$24.00/hour based on experience.  Free membership to Cornell Fitness Centers

Purpose or Role of the Position Within the Organization:

We hire certified personal trainers with good communication and practical skills, who are also friendly, professional, and interested in continuing to develop Personal Training skills by seeking ongoing learning opportunities.  Shifts are flexible based on one's availability (minimum of 8 hours per week average is expected).

Duties/Responsibilities of the Position:

CFC Personal Trainers conduct fitness consultations with clients, design exercise programs, instruct clients about exercise recommendations, and lead them through workout sessions. The duties may also include shifts in the fitness centers, helping members with their workouts, answering questions regarding exercise, and/or delivering instructional special event programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting fitness consultations according to CFC protocols.
  • Providing safe exercise recommendations to clients based on established industry guidelines.
  • Explaining the exercise program that you have prepared to the client.
  • Demonstrating and teaching the exercises to the client and providing feedback on technique.
  • Abiding by all personal trainer policies and CFC policies.
  • Being punctual and prepared for all appointments with clients or professional staff.
  • Attending mandatory and optional staff training classes
  • Being a responder in the event of an emergency
  • Being comfortable using and demonstrating all the equipment

Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (a short grace period is allowed to acquire first aid certification)
  • Nationally recognized Personal Trainer Certification (e.g., NSCA, ACSM, ACE, NASM, ISSA, etc.) that is maintained and current.
  • Personal trainers must complete on the job training within one month of hire.
