NYT food writer Mark Bittman speaking at Cornell and in Ithaca

Mark Bittman, celebrated New York Times food columnist and author, is visiting Cornell and Ithaca for a week of events in early March, most of which are open to the public. He's the Irik Sevin '69 West Campus Visiting Fellow, and will be the guest of Hans Bethe House on Cornell's West Campus.
Mr. Bittman wrote the cookbook How to Cook Everything fifteen years ago, and for thirteen years wrote the food column "The Minimalist" for the Times,starring in a series of cooking videos of the same name the last several years. He's now the lead food columnist for the New York Times Magazine, and writes for their Op-Ed pages. He's recently focused especially on vegetarian cooking and what he calls "lessmeatarianism."

On Monday, Mr. Bittman will speak in the Hans Bethe House Common Room about writing about food for the Times, and on Tuesday he'll attend an invitation-only dinner for Bethe House students. Wednesday he'll speak at the Kitchen Theatre from noon to 2pm in a community event open to the public, then appear that evening with Brian Wansink, John H. Dyson Professor of Marketing in Cornell's Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, on their common area of expertise: conscious vs mindless eating. On Thursday evening, Mr. Bittman will be at an invitation-only dinner at Bethe House, followed by a 7:30pm talk on his book "Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating."

Cornell alum Irik Sevin '69 endowed the Sevin Fellowships in honor of Isaac Kramnick, the Richard J. Schwartz Professor of Government at Cornell and a founder of the West Campus House System, with the goal of bringing distinguished individuals in American public life to mix with students on West Campus, sharing ideas and insights with residents.
