These conversations provide an excellent opportunity to learn more about Cornell to support your student.
Connect with your Student
Your student may or may not admit it, but they will probably miss home in some way. Your student will love hearing from you while they are at Cornell. While it might be a transition when it comes to contact, continue to reach out, but be considerate of your student’s commitments and new schedule.
If your student seems rushed or a little unresponsive when you call, it might be wise to set a convenient time for phone calls, as student and family schedules often differ considerably. You may need to prepare for later telephone calls, as college students tend to be night owls. Text and Snapchat are quick ways to stay in touch with your student. Keep in mind that such brief communication may not provide the full context of the message. If you have family members in different locations, consider a group conversation through services like WhatsApp, GroupMe or videoconferencing. Everyone loves to get mail. In the technology based world we live in, it’s nice to receive a card, letter, or care package.
