Abdelrhman Abdelrhman

2024 Emerging Leader

Abdelrhman is an undergraduate student at Cornell in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, studying the Biological Sciences and also Pre-med. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Abdelrhman has come upstate to Ithaca to have a change of scenery and enjoy the beautiful views through lakes, scenic walks, and from his apartment window. On campus, he is President of the Pan-African Muslim Student Association (PAMSA), co-founder of the Sudanese Student Association (SSA), he has been a Teaching Assistant, and Abelrhman is a proud member of CSTEP’s Pre-Professionals Program.

Alexies Benitez

2023 Emerging Leader

Alexies is an undergraduate student at Cornell, originally from Santa Ana, CA. She is in the College of Human Ecology while studying Human Biology Health and Society in the Division of Nutritional Sciences. On campus, she is the Co-Conference Chair of BBMTA, the president of Cornell Pre-SOMA, a teacher assistant for the general chemistry courses, member of the Cornell ACLU Association, and Cornell Speech and Debate. Alexies loves to learn about social factors, and how those make an impact on a person's life.

Paula Blanco-Ortiz

2023 Emerging Leader

Paula Blanco-Ortiz is an undergraduate in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences studying Environment and Sustainability. Paula currently works at the Cornell Wildlife Health Lab creating non-invasive detection methods for the Ambystoma species complex, a group of special concern New York salamanders. When she is not in the lab you can find her chasing amphibians, reading a book, or baking. 

Zuri Hannibal

2023 Emerging Leader

Zuri Hannibal is a senior from Brooklyn, New York, majoring in Biological Sciences. She is passionate about the links between nutrition and health, with plans to become a physician. On campus, Zuri is involved in the Pre-Professional Program, an LSC Biology Tutor and a member of Language House. In her down time, she enjoys reading, cooking and exploring the nature surrounding the Ithaca area.

Alice Hu

2023 Emerging Leader

Alice Hu is in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Business. On campus, she is part of the Cornell Chapter of Girls Who Code, a Physics undergraduate TA, Basic Rock Climbing Instructor, and a member of the Pre-Professional Program. After graduation, she hopes to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. When she isn't studying, you can find her rock climbing, curled up in a corner reading, or trying some new recipes.

Yahir Huerta-Salas

2023 Emerging Leader

Yahir is an undergraduate in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences pursuing a Biological Sciences major. He was born and raised in the Bronx by immigrant parents from Mexico and enjoys participating in family gatherings. Yahir has gained experience in the chemistry field and hopes to further learn more about the biological field in the Abbasov Group. He is interested in further exploring the science field to obtain a Ph.D. in a related discipline after Cornell. Outside of academics, he enjoys watching European football, listening to music, and hanging out with friends!

Chandra Jebodh

2023 Emerging Leader

Chandra Jebodh is an undergraduate in the Charles H. Dyson School for Applied Economics and Management, pursuing a bachelor's degree in applied economics and management with a concentration in accounting. In addition to being an Emerging Leader, she is also a McNair Scholar, a Cooke scholar, a Millennium Fellow, a member of the P3 program, and a proud Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society member. Chandra wants to study forensic accounting and fraud to prevent corporate fraud from happening.

Jahi Noel

2023 Emerging Leader

Jahi Noel is an undergraduate in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He's majoring in Biological Sciences with a concentration in human nutrition. He is interested in studying and researching nutrition, and metabolic diseases, with the hopes of becoming a physician-scientist. On campus, Jahi is involved in the Biology Scholars Program, the Pre-Professional Program, and is an LSC Biology tutor. In his free time Jahi likes to dance, watch movies, take nature walks, journal, and do yoga. 

Halima Rahman

2023 Emerging Leader

Halima Rahman is an undergraduate student in the College of Agricultural Sciences studying Global and Public Health at Cornell University. She is passionate about health disparities and actively engages with GlobeMed to implement community-driven solutions. Her commitment to making a positive impact on global health reflects not just a career path but a personal mission to create meaningful change. Beyond academics, Halima finds joy in baking and practicing Taekwondo.

Jay Sobers

2023 Emerging Leader

Jay Sobers is an undergraduate at Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Jay is pursuing an Environment and Sustainability major and two minors in Animal Science and Marine Biology. She has been a Girl Scout since elementary school and always loved the camping trips. Being from Northern New Jersey, Jay had the opportunity to go out into nature, it was an experience that she had to go out and seek.

Santi Tabares Erices

2023 Emerging Leader

Santi Tabares Erices is an undergraduate in the College of Agriculture and Life Science majoring in Environment & Sustainability at Cornell University with a concentration in Environmental Biology and Applied Ecology. He has worked on mammalian torpor and cultural evolution in lyrebirds and is interested in physiology and chemical ecology in birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Outside of class, Santi enjoys birding, herping, rock climbing, and baking.  

Diego Valle

2023 Emerging Leader

Diego is from Glendale California. He is an undergraduate student at Cornell University studying biological sciences. After graduation he is planning to apply to medical school.
