SCL Performance Dialogues

Performance Dialogue (PD) Process

SCL’s evaluative cycle will review performance of staff on a fiscal year basis beginning July 1 through June 30.

The dialogue focuses on an employee’s professional accomplishments, career growth, and belonging. The form also asks each employee to reflect on what contributions they have made to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for others. This continues our efforts as a Division and a University to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion by incorporating it into the dialogue process.

In addition, there is a simple rating scale of “successful” and “currently not successful.  Supervisors who are contemplating a rating of “currently not successful” should reach out to their HR partner prior to initiating the PD.

How can I get started?

Once the Performance Dialogue cycle is launched, you will receive a notification to log into Workday to begin your self-evaluation which you can find in your Workday inbox. Once you are satisfied with the self-evaluation you can “submit” the PD which routes it to your manager and allows them to see your responses, add their own comments and prepare for your conversation together.

Please note: Union staff covered by the UAW collective bargaining agreement will continue to use hard copy evaluations.

SCL PD Timeframe

Generally, the PD process in Workday opens in April, but specific communications will be sent to all staff each year to kick-off the process.

Our team is available for any questions you may have about the process, training, and timeline. Please feel free to reach out to your respective HR representative anytime.

Check-In Feature

In Workday, there is a quarterly Check-In feature to help managers and staff prepare for their annual Performance Dialogue (PD).

Workday Check-Ins provide an easy way for managers and their team members to capture notes from routine meetings where goals and performance are discussed, and then transfer the preferred content to the team member's PD. Managers and employees can schedule a Check-In, and within each Check-In, they can create individual topics for discussion. SCL is currently planning when we will launch this new feature. In the meantime, please read more about Workday Check-Ins.

Please note: staff covered by the collective bargaining agreement will continue with the established version of the Performance Dialogue.
