Sailing - Fall 2024

IMPORTANT: Students must provide their own transportation to the Merrill Sailing Center (1000 East Shore Drive). Failure to arrive on time or missed classes due to transportation problems will be counted against attendance.

PE 1480 - Introduction to Small Boat Sailing

This course teaches the basic skills necessary to sail 2-person dinghies. Skills learned include: sailing terminology, knots, safety and etiquette, boat handling, sail trimming, capsize recovery and heavy wind considerations. There are a total of eighteen hours of instruction on shore or Cayuga Lake depending on weather. Course fee includes all equipment. Come dressed for the weather, as you will get wet. Open to sailors of all skill levels.

Course Fee: $500. Students must be able to swim (75 yds or equivalent to university swim test requirement). Attendance during the first two classes is mandatory due to safety reasons! If these classes are missed, the student can no longer continue to attend, and may be dropped from the course. Add Deadline: Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Drop Deadline: Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 late drop fee if they do not drop by the deadline.
