First-Generation Celebration Week

FGLI Week 2023First-generation students bring a unique perspective to the Student and Campus Life experience at Cornell. As trailblazers, being the first in their family to attend college, these students are overcomers, achievers, dreamers, and fighters. And because of this, we celebrate them for an entire week filled with events and programming. Below is a schedule event for the 2023 First Generation Celebration Week.

This event looks at self-care through the lens of gender equity, race, class, ability, and the Rest as Resistance Movement:

  • How do we redefine traditional ideas of self-care to make it more inclusive for marginalized communities?
  • How do we recognize invisible labor and burnout in the workforce?
  • How does the Rest as Resistance Movement inspire self-care as a form of activism?

Come for conversation, hot beverages, affirmation cards and resources!

Event is hosted by Asian & Asian American Center, First Generation and Low Income Support, Gender Equity Resource Center, and the Office of Spirituality and Meaning-Making.

Personal migration and FGLI experiences through art

Fri, Nov. 10  |  6-7pm  |  Latino Living Center
RSVP is required on Campus Groups
Join us for a paint and sip with conchas and Jarritos in the Latino Living Center to engage in community and discuss what personal migration and FGLI experiences mean at Cornell.

Migration is natural, and the experiences of First Generation Low-Income students are complex. We all move across different places throughout our lives, be it state to state, school to school, or country to country. FGLI experiences are diverse and rooted in different lived experiences with intersecting identities and personal stories.

Event is hosted by Latino Living Center & Undocumented/DACA Student Support.
