Hi everyone. My name is Elaine Lu. I am the career readiness coach at Central Office. And today we'll be going over Case Coach, the new platform to support students in consulting interviews. So I'm going to start off by sharing my screen. Can everyone see my screen? Okay, so to start off, Case Coach is a new tool that provides comprehensive support to students throughout their consulting, internship, and full time job search, application process, and recruitment process from resume and cover letter and interviews. This is a free service for Cornell students and assist the case interview process by including step by step guides, sample libraries, practice drills, and opportunities to find a case practice partner either within Cornell University or other students from partnering schools. Today Stephanie and I will be going over the features that Cornell University offers to their students. As you start off in the website case coach.com slash Cornell, you'll see the menu page from Home, My course, practice, coaching and resources. We're going to start off with the my course tab. Within the course tab, there's the interview prep course, case, math course, and resume course. Once you start with the interview prep course. As this load, I want to note that all these courses within these modules, they're all go at your own pace. So students can pause and complete it whenever they're free or available, or ready. So they can do this in between their courses or after the coursework. Once you enter the interview prep course page. You'll see intro video with the founder of Case Coach. There's an introduction video of top consulting firms with what the interview process is like and the format of their interview. As you scroll down to case interview, there's overview. Within the overview course, as I enter the page, you will see a video lecture and you could play the video lecture. To learn more about the case overview, there are downloadable PDF slide deck where students or us can access and view and share this resource to students. Essentially, for this overview, it goes over how to prepare. There's a sample video with a candidate and interviewer, going over a case sample for students to understand the process and the steps within a case interview with case coach, there is a scorecard. Essentially, the scorecard is key problem solving skills that case coach has identified that recruiters or employers look for within their candidates for consulting roles. The score card, you can download it and you can also utilize it whenever you do your practice sessions with your students. Now I'm going to go back to the interview prep course. As this page loads, I want to talk a little bit more about these score card. The score card has those key problem solving skills and case coach breaks it down within these modules available for students to learn more about those key skills. The first structuring, numeracy, judgment and insights, and it goes on as you scroll down. If we click on the structuring section, it goes more in depth of what makes a good structure, how to build a structure, top ten business frameworks. And this is super helpful, especially with students who are not taking any business classes to be aware of those business frames and structures. Academic framework, logical approach, how to communicate the structure. And there's also practice drill videos , again, there are videos and slide deck for students or even staff members to access the information going back to interview prep course. In addition to the case interview prep, there's also samples of alternative formatting that students may experience during their interview, which is estimation questions and written cases. This is a really good for a way for you to be aware of these processes or systems and also for students to learn. You can see there's also time frame for these videos and lectures if you scroll down a little bit more too. In addition to the case information, there's also Fit interview overview of what to expect during the fit interview process and step by step on showing students how to pitch themselves, their achievements. And even there's a three hour long fit interview process with sample candidates going over some questions and how they answer their questions so students have an idea of what to expect and how to answer. There's also practice materials that you can utilize during your practice sessions with students. The next course I'll be going over is the case math course. Within the case math course, when it comes to consulting interview. It's important for a candidate to be quick, correct and confidence with their analytical or quantitative skills. Within the case, it goes over the four operations, which is addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Just to refresh the students memory when it comes to these four operations. There's key math concepts, fraction, percentage, compounding, weight, average, probability, and algebra, some protips for students to increase their accuracy and speed when answering math questions with the case math course The key thing that I wanted to introduce a lot was the business math course. As you enter the business math course, it goes over some business concepts for students to understand more of these key terms if they need to refresh their memory or even be introduced to these topics. When it comes to the interview, some key terms that they go over are income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, investment, et cetera. And these videos that students can watch on their own to learn more from lecture or even go through the Powerpoint slide. Next, I'll be talking about the resume course. Within the resume course, there's an introduction talking about what top consulting firms are looking for in resumes it starts off with how to write a great resume for consulting. What's the layout like, what content to include As you enter each of these modules again, there are video lectures in the slide deck and also templates where students can access these templates, download it, and utilize these templates as their own, and input their own information. Or even view these template samples to get an idea of what to put on their resume. This could be an additional resource to the career development toolkit. If we go back to the resume course again one more time, and if we score all the way down. There is a bonus feature where students can even get instructions, or have an idea of how to construct a cover letter for consulting roles. But I'm going to go ahead and chat about the other resources in addition to those courses that the students have through this platform. The first one is the case library. This one has about over 100 different types of cases that are available to students that are already done, already added to the platform. So they can experience all the prompts and the questions for these types of cases. The really nice thing here is you can filter depending on what you're interested in. For example, the first one is type, if you're looking for something that is Instructor led or candidate Led, you can focus and filter on those things. You can also filter on difficulty. If you're a student that's just starting out with case interviewing, you can absolutely select the easy ones as you're progressing more and being more successful with these interviews. You can hit the medium and the hard options also. There's a lot of variety here for the students depending on where they are in this journey, the functions themselves, those are the types of interview questions asked. If a student wanted to focus on growth strategy or data science, they can filter through and have those more relevant case studies to look over and review. You can also focus on sector. These sectors are going to be, again, more specific components of what the student might be interested in, their interest in agriculture or conglomerates, or business service, even airlines. These are all things they can focus on and really drill down into, depending on what they're interested in, what types of interviews they might have or what types of interviews they want to have as well, the stretch area. This is where in the stretch area is going to focus on those key skills that employers are looking for. This circles back to those key problem solving skills that were on the rubric that Elaine was explaining in the courses in terms of case leadership or creativity or structuring. They can focus on those aspects as well. Instead of the entire process, they can focus on some of those segmented options. There's also options in here with these case studies of having videos or no videos. You can also filter on that as well. There's a lot of options there for the students depending on what they're looking for and where they are in this interview process. These cases that are in this case library, they're updated on a yearly basis. They're also created by top consulting firms. They're absolutely relevant to what students are going to be. I think that alarm thing is going off too, so I apologize if you hear that in the background, but these are all going to be relevant cases and what students are going to be experiencing with their interviews with these employers as well. Then a few of them will have the yellow gold, depending on what display you have button there that says New. Those are the cases that pop up to the top that are newly added to the platform. There's it's really nice way of keeping everything organized and knowing which ones are the new additions to the platform as well. Elaine, if you wouldn't mind clicking on that first one in, It should take just a second here to load. And then we'll just show you, if you do the open case, this is where you can view the case or download a PDF. This is really nice. If you just want to download the PDF of the questions, the responses, then maybe some tips, some really good answers to some of the responses, some of the answers to the prompts. A student can take this with them if they're maybe practicing with advisor or a friend, family member. It's really easy to download those and where the student might need them or might want to use them as well. The other nice thing here too, is after students are going through these cases, they're able to rate them. You see the four point 8.5 star rating there, right at the bottom of this page is where you can click Submit a Comment, or click that rating as well. All right, then the next one. Here they are, practice rooms. These can be really exciting for students to take advantage of. Here you're able to schedule virtual appointments. You can schedule in book appointments with other Cornelians and other students that are members of case coach partnering schools that we have. This is all around the world, which is really exciting. If there is someone that you wanted to work with that speaks a specific language, depending on location, taking into account time zones, you can do all those filters in here. And then you'll have a list of students that would be available depending on the date under that book as session there. There's October 4. You can click a date that you might be available to see if there are any other Cornelians or any other students on the platform that are available as well. You can do a peer interview test. Elaine. If you click Ashley's book link there, we can show you that This screen will show on the left hand side, a little profile of the student. This is something where you can put a little or you can put a lot of information. We recommend that the student put something in there just so that they can be better matched with other students that are looking for a partner in these case interviews. From the right hand side, you can see the availability that the student has. You can click on a specific day in time. There's also under this time block space where you can send a message to this person as well. It's a really good interactive interface there for students to have those peer to peer interviews, test interviews. Then Elaine, if you scroll to the top just a little bit more. Book session, My Sessions. This next little block here under Case Coach. If you click on My sessions, this will show the students sessions that they have. This will be upcoming sessions and then any other sessions that they've already completed as well. My performance, This is showing a student's performance on these peer to peer interviews. This is what the other person or the other student is creating the student on. You'll see those problem solving skills here on the top list. Structuring, judgment, creativity, and then general impression, presence, communication, and the student will have that overall score there on the left side for that. All right, so this is really helpful to, for students. If their judgment scores really high, their creativity scores really high, but they're noticing maybe leadership or structuring is pretty low. This is a good place for a student to go and really gauge on which skills they may want more practice on or maybe should practice on a little bit more. It gives the student idea of things to work on or things to concentrate or work towards as well. That brings me up into what we call what case coach calls drill rooms. The I'll give just a second here for it to load. Perfect these rooms here are things that the student can concentrate on if they are really wanting more practice on calculations or charts, they can start these drills. For example, if you click on calculations, we'll show you really quickly this here. You can really focus on something, maybe percentage or division. Or if you wanted to focus on all of those question types, you can pick and choose there difficulty level if you want to start with standard or if you really think that you have everything down and you do advanced, you can also really time yourself. You can put yourself under a time crunch and choose 1 minute as opposed to 10 minutes. Once you click all of that and press Start, this next screen will come up with that clock for whatever time that the student chose, as well as a set of questions. It'll say calculate and you'll put in all of your answers. Then you'll see as Alan is moving through the questions, those two graphs at the top, the one in orange and the one in blue there will show how many correct answers you have in the speed at which you're answering the questions. Once that 30 or 35 seconds or so finishes, you'll just get that finished screen of answered eight out of ten questions correctly with 95% speed. It'll give you that final calculation for the students. Then Elaine, if you go up and click my performance again, that's another way for the students giving it a second there. That's another way for the students to see the questions answered, what they got correct. And then the speed as well. I'll give you a chance to review solutions to anything you may have gotten wrong. It's a really nice platform where it gives you the step by step process for the student and also gives you the answers or the solutions in case if a student is struggling, they have to look back on so that they can still progress through that. The next step here is coaching sessions. We're just going to mention that really quickly, it is something that is available. It's not something that Cornell provides for the students. This would be an extra fee if you do get questions about that. It's just something that's not included in the package that we have. But that coaching session there is to work with consultants that are currently consultants or maybe previously were consultants, things like that. We couldn't get that coaching to disappear. I'm still trying to work with them about that just so nobody sees it. So we don't get any questions about it, but in case any students ask questions about that, we wanted to make sure we mentioned it. Then finally, the resources tab. This articles consulting trends employers look for in their applicants interview tips. Understanding the difference of each consulting firms the student might be looking at and what to expect in consulting career. Tons of articles about like you see here, applications, interview tips, firms, careers, just a great way for students to get some more resources, maybe some more questions answered about firms, or what that career might look like for them as well. That is very quickly a nutshell of what is involved with the case coach and how students can utilize it and add that to a resource as they're thinking about interviewing about their career journey here. Um, are there any questions about the courses or anything? I just covered anything like that that we can clarify or cope answer for you. Hi, Stephanie. Is there like a general? Um. Number of hours that students should be thinking about to prepare for these interviews. Because like, if you did everything on the entire site, it would be a long time, right? Absolutely. Elaine, please feel free to chime in here too. But the really nice thing about the platform is you can spend a few hours on these interviews or you can spend really as long as, as a student needs on the. It's really more how everything is guided and step by step is how comfortable a student is feeling about an interview they are preparing for or just making sure that they're comfortable with the process. Elaine, I don't know from your experience, if you have an idea of how long students tend to spend practicing. It really depends on the students experience and their background knowledge. When it comes to casing, it's more like go on your own pace. And students can start and end where they feel like it's needed. And if they need any additional support, they can always go back or go to a different course to learn more details about the sections or skills that they want to improve on. But essentially, I think the overview video does a really good job of giving a general gist of what is a consulting case interview. The best way for students to practice is actually just starting to practice with either a peer or watching more videos or practicing the sessions on their own. Thank you. And then Elaine, it looks like Susie had another question here in the chat of how a contrasting case coach with CQ Interactive. I will be totally honest, and I don't know a lot about that. Q Interactive. I don't know, Elaine, if you have any insight into that question. I'm not quite sure, but I think that's a really good question that we can always get back to you on. You mentioned CQ Interactive? Yeah, It's a database platform that is through the business library. That's usually for MBA students and I work with doctoral students and postdocs to get access to it. I just wonder if anybody was familiar with both platforms and whether I should think about one or the other as being better in another area or not. That's all I think. From my experience, I think it doesn't hurt to share both resource or both options to this student. Because it allows them to have more practice and more background knowledge, different sources. The issue with that is that they're over achievers and professionistsf we give them too many resources, they don't know what to focus on and what to start with because it's just like a fire hose of information. I guess my approach might be to ask them what they need. If it's just an introduction, then just go to that video. They need to work on certain skills or they need to differentiate between the organizations. Then maybe I could point them to there and then they can wander from that point. Yeah, I think another good point is that case coach in the case library, as Stephanie mentioned, a lot of the cases are always updated. And the new, it might be a good opportunity for students to see more updated cases and practice those more updated cases as well. You may be wanted to direct some of the students to practice room for the practice sessions. You can really drill down on the student itself. You can search those that have Bachelor's degrees, that have MBA's, that have advanced degrees, that are an experienced professional. If you're working with students that are students or those that are in a Master's level program, that could be helpful too to really find someone that is like minded or in the same type of program for the students. Those filtering options could be really beneficial too, especially if they're very proactive and wanting to utilize as much as they can. I was just going to ask about how this compares with management consultant. My guess would be that students should look at both and see which one works best for their learning style. Just because management consultant has, I think over 200 some cases and they also have new ones all the time too. They have boot camps and they're providing similar support, but it is different in how it looks. Sometimes when look at management consultant, I find it overwhelming. It could also be laid out in structure in terms of how students decide whether interactive or case coach or management consultant is the best method. Or maybe they start in one and move to another just to change up their practice and their knowledge. But I didn't know if others had other thoughts about that as well. I'll say we recommend both of them in the tool kit. We like to both and we say, check it out, see what's going to work for you. We'll be tracking usage, right, to make sure it makes sense to maintain these contracts. Management consultant and case coach for Central separate from the business schools. Instance. For me one of the things as human and coaching students is the barrier to entry. We have enabled single sign on with coach by uploading all of those ID's and stuff. I think the initial like getting into the system might be easiest for one system compared to another. That's another thing to practice as a staff or sit there with a student while they're doing it to see are there like ten verification, e mails and steps. And they have to go here and then they got lost or there's so many opportunities for them to lose interest and try something else. That's another thing I think about one, recommending next steps or sending follow up e mails with instructions, things like that. Great, thank you, Jess Rights, any other questions? Comments? It looks like a sensational way to get into this area and practice. Fantastic. I will say I don't have the case management or consulting background as we're going through this whole on boarding process myself. And with Elaine, I've learned quite a bit. I can imagine the students will have plenty to work on and plenty to learn through this platform. I'm excited for the students to take advantage of it. Like Jess was saying, we're going to be tracking usage and looking for thoughts and feedback on the platform itself. We're hoping to share that as well. I don't want to keep everyone here until three. Like Elaine had said. Also, we're going to send a whole recap of this platform. We'll send out links to make sure that you have access. If anyone has tried getting into the platform and doesn't have access, please let me know. I'm happy to add you really quickly. We'll work a little bit on the recording to make sure everything is clear before we get that sent out as well, but any colleagues that were able to attend, we'll have all of that information in that e mail as well so they can watch that recording.
