Shakima M. Clency

Shakima M. Clency comes to Cornell from Alfred University in Alfred, New York, where she served as the inaugural Diversity Fellow in the Center for Student Involvement. In this capacity, she advised several identity affinity student organizations, taught courses on pop culture and social justice, and served on the Bias Response Team and President's Committee on Diversity. Prior to her time at Alfred University, she served as the Senior Associate Director in the Office of New Student Transitions and First Year Experience at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was responsible for the first-year seminar course program, the first-year common read, the academic advising inventory, peer mentors, and financial literacy initiatives. Shakima has held numerous roles in Student Affairs, including Residence Life, Academic Affairs, and Learning Communities. She holds a M.S. in College Student Personnel Administration from Canisius College and a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Alfred University. Currently, Shakima is pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
