Parents of new students are invited to meet Tatkon Center staff who will present what it will be like for new students at Cornell. Topics to be discussed include all things Cornell, from academics to student and campus life, to living in Ithaca. The Tatkon Center is a resource center for first-year students that serves as a home base and provides academic, personal, and career exploration support and more throughout the first year.

Lemonade and Cookies in the Courtyard: discover Tatkon, your home base all year

Drop by the Tatkon Center table in the Balch courtyard for lemonade and cookies and a warm welcome from its super friendly student staff! Then go inside to see the art exhibits, lending library, study spaces, and Carol’s Café. Ask the Tat staff anything! Tatkon offers weekly meditation, fun study breaks and post-prelim events, free peer tutoring, career services, community service opportunities, and more. Refreshments served inside if raining.

Tatkon Block Party: Celebrate your First Week!

Celebrate your first week and discover Cornell’s first-year support and resource hub: The Tatkon Center. Pot a succulent for your room, help make a blanket for a child in need, play FIFA, play with visiting doggies, meet fellow first years, and network with older Tatkon Center staff. Refreshments served.

Student Panel: Life on the Hill

Student staff members from the Tatkon Center for First-Year Students will talk about life on the Hill. Time will be available for questions and answers. The panel will be followed by pizza and a chance to mingle with other first-year students.

International Student Panel: Life in Ithaca

Upper-level international student staff members from the Tatkon Center for First-Year Students will share tips to help your transition to life at an American university. Stay afterwards, meet other international students and the Tat staff, and check out the center. Refreshments served.

First-Generation Meet and Greet

Meet-and-greet to connect with fellow first-generation new students, upper-level students, and faculty and staff members from similar backgrounds. During this event, the associate dean and director of First-Generation and Low-Income Student Support, the Office of Academic Diversity Initiative’s (OADI) First in Class and First Generation Student Union will welcome all first-year and transfer students by introducing the programs, resources, support systems, and networks available to first-generation students on campus. Although we are first, we are not alone.

CU Downtown: Ithaca Celebrates New Students!

Explore the city you will call home for the next four years and watch many of Cornell’s vibrant performing arts groups on stage on the Ithaca Commons, Ithaca’s outdoor pedestrian mall. See the Big Red Marching Band and Cornell Pep Band take over the Ithaca Commons, and enjoy breakdancing, Japanese drumming, a cappella, Chinese and Indian dancing, jazz, and more. Don’t miss out on special student discounts, a scavenger hunt, and activities at retail stores and restaurants. Join groups departing from residence halls (learn how to take the local bus service from campus) or take a beautiful walk downtown via Cascadilla Gorge. Unsure about your major and/or what career to pursue? Meet other first-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences who are in the same boat! Senior Career Associate Ana Adinolfi will introduce you to the college career development process and how your interests, personality, and values may connect to majors or careers. We will set goals for your Cornell experience and identify resources that can help you meet them!
