Wake Sports - Fall 2024

IMPORTANT: Students must provide their own transportation to the Merrill Sailing Center (1000 East Shore Drive). Failure to arrive on time or missed classes due to transportation problems will be counted against attendance.

PE 1336 - Wakeboarding and Wakesurfing

This class is designed for students who want to learn (or improve their skills at) wakeboarding and wake surfing on beautiful Cayuga Lake. Enjoy time on the water with fellow students, cheer each other on as you learn and practice water sports that connect your mind and body (and fill you with enjoyment), and improve your fitness as you fulfill a PE credit. If you have snowboarded or skateboarded and always wanted to try surfing or wakeboarding, this course is for you. Or if you have always wanted to try a watersport but haven't had the chance, you will find a welcoming environment to try out something new and fun for you. Class consists of six three-hour sessions on the lake with a class size of six (or fewer students) each session, giving you at least 30 minutes of practice every class. We have a GoPro set up to capture your riding so that you can analyze your footage and learn from what you did well and what you can improve. The boat will depart from the Merrill Family Sailing Center each class (transportation to and from there is not provided).

Course fee: $1100. Students must have completed the university swim requirement. Because this course is limited to six students, each spot is special. If you miss the first class, you may be dropped from the course, and someone from the waitlist will immediately take your place. Students on the waitlist should plan to attend the first session. In order of sign-up to the list, students will get any spots that are open due to no-shows at the first session. If any students drop after the first session, the instructor will reach out to students on the waitlist to alert them that a spot is open so that waitlisted students can attend the remaining five sessions. Drop Deadline: Monday, August 26, 2024. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 late drop fee if they do not drop by the deadline.
