Ongoing Services at the Tatkon Center for New Students

Tuesday February 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m. | Prep for Prelims

Prelims are getting underway, so join the Learning Strategies Center’s peer tutors for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn about effective strategies for managing your time and preparing for upcoming projects and exams. You’ll learn about evidence-backed studying techniques tested and recommended by other Cornell students and work with your peers to think about the study strategies that work best for you. All students from all majors and colleges are welcome to join.


Wednesday March 13, 5-6 p.m. | Career Exploration: What Can I Do With My Major?

You may feel like there is a general path to career from your major, or you might feel unsure of how you can use your major’s uniqueness to find your fit. Either way, there’s a LOT more that you can do with your degree than you may think. Come to this interactive session to learn strategies for self-exploration and action planning to help you find possible career matches based on your unique personality, interests, skills, and values. We’ll also explore what Cornell alumni are doing professionally and ways for you to connect with them.


Monday April 8, 6:30-7:30 p.m.| Gear Up for Finals 

With only a month of classes left, it’s time to start thinking about how you are going to prep for finals. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll reflect on what you’ve done this semester and what still lies ahead. Then, peer tutors from the Learning Strategies Center will help you craft a personalized plan for completing your semester successfully. All students from all majors and colleges are welcome to join.


Thursday April 11, 5-6 p.m. | Networking: Connecting to Find Summer Opportunities 

Join Cornell Career Services advisors for an overview of how to build your community through networking and relationship building. Agenda topics include:

  • Overview of Networking and tips for building your community
  • Introduction to CUeLINKS and LinkedIn
  • Review additional resources

This is an interactive workshop incorporating individual and group activities. 


Thursday May 2, 6:30-7:30 p.m. | Finish Strong

Learn about the most effective strategies for studying efficiently and effectively as finals approach. This interactive workshop, led by peer tutors from the Learning Strategies Center, will demonstrate techniques for getting the most out of your study time and help make a plan for finishing the semester strong. All students from all majors and colleges are welcome to join.


Academic Preparation: The Tatkon Center for New Students collaborates frequently with the Learning Strategies Center to provide study skill tutoring and academic planning for new students as they navigate their transition to University level courses.
   
Wellness Programs: Throughout the semester, the Tatkon Center for New Students hosts multiple programs geared towards supporting your whole self, this includes wellness-based programs. We offer large- and small-scale programs to support you in exploring what wellness means to you while on campus. 

Social Programming: Throughout the semester, the Tatkon Center for New Students hosts programs geared towards building community and learning. Make sure to come on by to meet new students, play games, watch movies, or just ask questions of the TPLs.
