Jon has served as Cornell’s first Vice Provost for Enrollment since 2019. A California native, Burdick moved to upstate New York in 2003. For 36 years he has led enrollment activities at the University of Southern California (USC), the University of Rochester, and now Cornell. Burdick was honored by admissions colleagues in 2016 as a national leader in broadening higher education diversity, inclusion, and access.
As VPE, Burdick oversees admission and registrar activities and leaders across all of Cornell’s colleges and schools as well as the financial aid and student employment office. Committed to the fundamentals of both “any person…any study” and “One Cornell,” he had to lead these essential services that every student needs to noted success during the COVID pandemic. Burdick has already taken substantial new steps to broaden Cornell’s socioeconomic diversity, and has a central role guaranteeing that CU enrollment and commitment to affordability will both grow by 2026 and beyond.
Burdick is a graduate of USC, an avid international traveler, and father of two. A recent and enthusiastic transplant to Ithaca, he can be seen almost every day and in all weathers commuting on foot to campus and hiking with his dogs.
