A one-year experience on an organic farm for people who are serious about agriculture, food, or farming. The farm is located in a valley about an hour outside Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. Much training is provided. Tasks include weeding, taking care of the animals, writing the weekly note for the CSA boxes, special projects, and field work. Benefits: room and board.

The Center for Green Schools places three-year sustainability directors in school districts through the Fellowship Program. Existing school district staff who allocate at least 50 percent of their time to sustainability-related work are eligible for scholarships from the Center, which allows them access to professional development, targeted education, and technical support. Fellows work daily with local ophthalmologists, local optometrists, and local ophthalmic nurses to eliminate patient barriers to care and to facilitate comprehensive year-round eye care for patients living in extreme poverty. Through hands-on, structured training, Global Impact Fellows gain a comprehensive understanding about the complexities and realities of global health, and they learn about best practices in volunteerism, global health, social entrepreneurship, and international development. Programs are available in Ghana, India, and Honduras. There are minimal costs for lodging and food. Global Impact Fellows can participate from seven days to multiple months, up to a full year or more.
